Obituary

Virginia Kay “Ginny” Plaxton

May 30, 1937 – May 25, 2026

Ginny Plaxton passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, in Midland, Michigan, just days before her 89th birthday. She was born on May 30, 1937, in Alma, Michigan, to Harry and Anna May Franks, the youngest of five children.

Ginny grew up in mid-Michigan, graduating from Saint Louis High School before building a life centered on family, friends, good food, and the joy of bringing people together. She married Donald Ray Plaxton, on April 7th, 1956, in Honolulu, Hawaii where they lived for a few years.  They later made Midland their home for many years, where they raised their family.  She put her remarkable organizational gifts to work as a secretary at Midland High School and Dow Chemical.

Ginny had a gift for making people feel important. She organized card groups and neighborhood phone lists with the same willing efficiency she brought to everything else. Her kitchen was an extension of that same generosity - to receive something she had cooked or baked was to understand how much she cared about you.

In retirement, she and Don traded Midland for Houghton Lake, and later made their home in Westphalia and Saint Johns.  Don passed away in 2018, but Ginny continued to thrive with her ladies’ card group, TV sports, wonderful neighbors, and loving family and friends.

Ginny is survived by her children Scott (Bonnie) Plaxton of Rose City, Carol (Randy) Tepatti of Summerville, South Carolina, and Shel (Sarah) Plaxton of Highland, along with six grandchildren,  seven great grandchildren, and a wide circle of dear friends who will miss her greatly.

Family will welcome friends to reminisce and celebrate Ginny’s life at an open house with refreshments from 1-5 pm on Monday, July 13th at the Agroliquid Building, 3055 M-21 in St. Johns, MI.
